I was able to talk to Cathy Wurzer on Minnesota Public Radio about Real Work and to talk about my love for poetry during National Poetry Month. We ran out of time for me to read a favorite poem but here is a recording of my reading Gerard Manley Hopkins's "Inversnaid."

Tomorrow is the official Real Work book launch reading and party! With Briam Baumgart and Donna Isaac. Friday, November 11, 7:00 pm at Eat My Words Bookstore in Minneapolis.

I will be at the Twin Cities Book Festival on Saturday, October 15, from 1:30 to 2:00. I will be at the Nodin Press booth and will have copies of Real Work available.

Just confirmed: I will be reading at Duluth Public Library on Friday, November 18, at 2:00. This is an in-person event but I hope to videorecord it and post the video afterwards.

November 9


After being posted from April, the reading "Home (Finding, Leaving, Reimagining)," with Stanley Kusunoki, Sagirah Shahid, and Bryan Thao Worra took place on November 9. The event was osted by the Saint Cloud State University Creative Writing Department.

Though literary readings are on hold throughout the Twin Cities, this spring I have two poems forthcoming in print: "Whetstone," in Cottonwood, and "Where Rivers Meet," in Blueline. Dates TBD.

My poem "The Fox" has gone live. Go to Up North Lit's Spring 2019 issue for text and audio of the poem. Up North has been a pleasure to work with.

I have now read my poetry in three different states, thanks to the editors of Waters Deep: A Great Lakes Anthology and the UntitledTown Literary Festival in Green Bay, Wisconsin. I will have to stay longer in Green Bay next time I go.

2018

November 16

I have been awarded an Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board for 2019. This is my first Arts Board grant. I will work on completing my book-length manuscript and seeking publishers for it and also plan public readings in both the Twin Cities and Saint Cloud, Minnesota.

Not only do I have a newly published poem in the beautiful journal Split Rock Review. I am in the Contributor Spotlight this week. This is the first time I have had the opportunity to write about how a poem came to be and have it published. There is an audio recording of me reading as well. I hope you enjoy my poem "Driftless."

This is, as the title suggests, a book of nature poems, but not poems that romanticize or sentimentalize nature. There is a fierceness to them, and moments of fear and awe as well as of beauty.

More broadly, I consider this collection to be about What Is Worth Saving in our world, especially during this time of overturning of environmental regulations and shrinking of national parks and other public lands.
